What you'll accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll have ChatGPT configured with your practice's specific context — carriers, tone, common procedures — so every letter, script, or message it writes for you is already tailored to your office without re-explaining it every time.

What you'll need

  • ChatGPT account — free at chatgpt.com (the {{tool:ChatGPT.plan}} plan at {{tool:ChatGPT.price}} unlocks more features, but Custom Instructions work on the free plan too)
  • Time needed: 20–30 minutes to set up
  • Cost: Free (Custom Instructions work without a paid plan)

How-To Guide: Configure ChatGPT for Dental Front Desk Work

Step 1: Open Custom Instructions

  1. Go to chatgpt.com and log in (or create a free account)
  2. Click your profile icon in the top right corner
  3. Select Customize ChatGPT from the dropdown menu
  4. A settings panel opens with two text boxes — you'll fill both

What you should see: Two large text areas: "What would you like ChatGPT to know about you?" and "How would you like ChatGPT to respond?"

Troubleshooting: If you don't see Customize ChatGPT in the menu, try refreshing the page — it's available on all accounts.
